October 18, 2008 (Boulder City, NV) – More than 1,500 triathletes competed in the Halfmax (Long Course) National Championships outside Las Vegas. The Colorado contingent saw several athletes take top honors in their age groups.
Amber Rydholm of Boulder won the F30-34 age group in 5:22:54. Judyann Cummings of Denver did the same in the F45-49 in her time of 5:27:15. Barbara Kostner of Lakewood took top honors in the F60-64 age group with her time of 7:58:40.
For the men, Denver’s Kirk Framke won the M30-34 age group in 4:43:11. Victor Selenow of Buena Vista won the M55-59 age group in 5:36:24.
The 2007 IRONMAN world champion, Chris McCormack, made an appearance at the race. “A lot of people were asking questions about how to approach the race, and the key is just to smile and have fun,” he said. “That’s what’s good about these races. In the pro ranks no one really talks much and it’s really dog eat dog. This is more about fun. This is what got me into the sport in the first place – I miss this part of it.”
