Boulder, CO – The final race in the MountainQuest Adventure Winter Triathlon Race Series will take place March 9, 2003 at Snow Mountain Ranch, near Winter Park, Colorado. The race will begin at 10 a.m., and consists of an 8 kilometer run, 15 kilometer mountain bike (on snow), and a 10 kilometer Nordic ski section. Most competitors will complete the course in 2-3 hours, with the winners in the 1:30 – 1:45 range. Cash awards to the overall male and female winners, plus raffle prizes worth over $2,500, are given at the awards ceremony following the race.
The first two races in the series took place on December 22 and February 2. Danelle Ballengee of Dillon, CO, one of the top multi-sport athletes in the U.S., has been the top female in both races; while, Mike Kloser of Vail has taken a first and second, being edged out by Dan Weiland, also of Vail, at the last event. “Both races have been fun and really challenging. It’s a great way to stay sharp and motivated during the winter months,” says Kloser, winner of 3 Eco-Challenge races, and a former World Mountain Bike Champion. The run takes place on snow-covered roads, while the biking section is largely on hard-packed Nordic ski trails. The final ski section is a fast, groomed course with some rolling hills. Snow Mountain Ranch is, indeed, a beautiful venue for such an event.
