April 28, 2010 (Boulder, CO) – D3 Multisport has been selected as a High Performance Team by USA Triathlon and will have three teams for youth between the ages of 10-23 years old. The goal of the USA Triathlon High Performance Teams Program is to increase the number and quality of developmental programs serving teenage and developmental elite athletes across the nation.
High Performance Teams play an integral role in the identification, recruitment, development, and age-appropriate competitive preparation of emerging youth elite, junior elite, and U23 athletes, with the goal of developing well-rounded athletes capable of success at the highest levels of competition and progression within the USAT Sport Performance Program.
The program will include customized triathlon coaching, team clothing, group workouts and one on one coaching each week from May to August.
“We are excited about the addition of D3 Multisport to the High Performance Team program,” said USAT’s Andy Schmitz. “The rich history of success of D3 athletes, strong coach to athlete ratio and bountiful support of grassroots triathlon in Boulder make D3 a perfect expansion vehicle for this draft-legal athlete development system.”
D3 joins the list of select coaching groups around the US to be designated a High Performance Team. The D3 Youth Triathlon Team is the first of its kind in Boulder and the first to be chosen by USA Triathlon to coach the future stars of the sport of triathlon.
“We are happy to have this opportunity to work with USAT in a High Performance capacity and look forward to our continued work with the triathletes of tomorrow. Given our affiliation with the University of Colorado and the success we’ve enjoyed thus far, it’s only a natural progression to create a youth triathlon team,” said Mike Ricci, Head Coach of D3 Multisport and the University of Colorado triathlon team.
The University of Colorado recently claimed their eleventh National Collegiate Triathlon Championship.
