June 7, 2009 (Middlebury, CT) – Boulder’s Matt Reed broke the 4-hour barrier on a tough, hilly course en route to cashing in on one of the biggest prize purses for an event featuring a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run.
Reed finished the challenging course in 3:59:28 to take home $16,000. Joe Gambles of Australia finished second in 4:01:03, and Tim O’Donnell of Boulder rounded out the podium with his time of 4:03:04. Michael Lovato of Boulder finished sixth in 4:08:47.
The women’s race was won by Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae in 4:27:26. Boulder’s Joanna Zeiger (4:30:41) and Amanda Lovato (4:33:19) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The inaugural Rev 3 Triathlon featured a $100,000 professional prize purse plus $20,000 in cash and prizes for the age-group athletes.
